Who can benefit from EMDR Therapy?
Living with the effects of traumatic experience and dealing with PTSD can be extremely challenging. While we may implement mechanisms to help us manage our day-to-day lives, the deep-seated memories can continue to haunt us and it can feel as though we will never be free.
Trauma can come in a multitude of forms. A few of these are:
• Acute trauma stemming from an incident such as an accident, violent assault, sudden loss, medical trauma, witnessing a natural disaster or violent event among others
• Chronic trauma coming from violent or stressful events over a sustained period of time. Childhood neglect, abuse, bullying and domestic violence are a few examples of chronic trauma
• Complex trauma generated from multiple traumatic events in life
People suffering from all of these kinds of trauma have found EMDR sessions with our caring, insightful and experienced therapist, Natalie Prior, to be of great help to them. Many clients notice substantial improvement within 6 to 12 sessions. If you are experiencing any type of trauma, call us on 01227 903 503 to begin your healing process with us.
Does EMDR only benefit people suffering from trauma?
No, the Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) approach helps people living with all kinds of mental health challenges such as anxiety, panic disorders, depression, phobias, grief and loss, chronic pain and self-esteem or confidence issues. EMDR can be valuable in helping us process and heal from these distressing experiences.
“I had several EMDR sessions with Natalie Prior to help me with extreme reactions and anxiety I have been experiencing in relation to my mother. I discovered my reactions were connected to certain childhood experiences and through working with Natalie they became less and less intense. Now I don’t even experience anxiety when I’m around her. I’m so grateful for the compassionate and loving way she helped me through this. MJ
How does EMDR work?
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses directly on memories and their associated emotions, often leading to quick and profound healing. During your sessions, Natalie will guide you to focus on certain memories while engaging in eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. This helps your brain to reprocess memories, reducing their emotional impact and creating a healthier and more peaceful response to them in both mind and body.
Our senior psychotherapist, Natalie Prior, will continue to work with you using EMDR until you feel relief both emotionally and physically. To speak with Natalie about your situation and therapeutic needs, Call us on 01227 903 503.
How will I feel after receiving a course of EMDR treatment?
Many clients report feeling lighter, more relaxed, and less physically burdened as they reprocess painful memories. In addition to alleviating the distressing emotional responses to life events and memories you may experience, EMDR often brings relief to the body, where trauma is frequently stored, benefiting physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches or digestive issues.
I instantly felt safe with Natalie. I was working with a difficult subject but I felt she was right there with me throughout. The EMDR took me on a journey, it wasn’t easy at times but I felt totally supported and held by Natalie. It has helped me enormously. I cannot recommend Natalie and the EMDR enough
